Muscle Man

If you're into body building or just up for a good laugh then why not spend a day at The Lakeside Complex in Frimley Green.

On May 10th from 2pm to 8pm Lakeside will be hosting 'Muscle Mayhem' a body building competition.

Tickets are £15 but this event is not for the faint hearted. Be warned.

All you need to know

For any information on any rock club in the surrey area visit this site.

They literally know everything and you'll never be stuck for somewhere to go ever again.

Out and About

If you live in Surrey then you'll know that things can be quite pricey and when your looking for something to do during the day or night you should be prepared to get you're purses out.
However I'm starting to think that there must be a way around this. As a student the term 'spare cash' is not something I am very familiar with and this is true for a lot of people whether you're a students, a parent or just not making as much money as you would like to. Which is probably a large part of the population.

Which is why I think tat we're so lucky in Surrey to have so much around us. For as little as £7.50 you can get the train to Central London and it's more than easy to spend a whole day there with your family or friends whilst spending no money at all. Take a packed lunch and then just spend the day relaxing in Hyde Park, taking a walk on the South Bank or just seeing the sights.

Everywhere in Surrey is also quite close to a beach. Another excellent way to have a day out whilst spending as little as possible. My favourite beaches are in Bournemouth and that's only 45 minutes away from Farnham by car.

But even if you don't feel like travelling so far why not get a group of friends and just go to your local park. In the summer my friends all try to arrange at least one 'activity day' at our local park. This involves everyone bringing sports equipment that they might have laying around at their house and everyone just having fun. This normally starts with everyone playing rounders or badminton and normally ends with the men playing football and the girls watching.

The point is there is no point staying in when you can get out for nothing!

Dusk, Guildford

On May 15th a new night club, Dusk is opening in Guildford. Dusk is close to all the bars and train station.

It opens at 10 pm next Thursday and Kiss 100's DJ Shorty Blitz will be appearing live.

Joseph

From Monday 19th to Saturday 24th May Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be showing at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking. This long running show by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice has been playing all over the world for many years and has proven to be one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's most popular productions.

The popularity of the show was reignited recently with the hit BBC programme Any Dream Will Do and playing Joseph at the moment is one of the finalists from the programme, Craig Chalmers.

Most people will recognise the story line and a lot of the music from the show and it's certainly one not to be missed.

Go Karting

If you're looking for something a bit different to do whether it's with your family, friends or as a day out for work, give Go Karting a try.

Tolworth Karting Track in Surrey boasts a huge outdoor track for anyone age 6+. It is an exciting experience for everyone with a 700 metre outdoor track, a spectators gallery as well as a clubhouse to enjoy after and special dining and BBQ facilities.

Parties are available for groups of 8 or more and prices start from £40.

More Local Gigs

Menendez are an alternative rock band with a suprisingly soothing sound.

They are playing gigs all over the Surrey and Hampshire area including one at The Star in Guildford on 22nd May. It starts at 8.00pm so go down and check it out.

Boat Trips

When the weather is good there is no better way to relax than a nice cruise along the canal. The Basingstoke canal runs right through Surrey and there are many boat trips to choose from.
The 'John Pinkerton' trip boat holds private and public trips as well as a chance to hire the whole boat.

The boat can carry up to 50 people and is fully stocked with food and drink.

Calling All Car Lovers

If you love everything about cars then Mercedes Benz World is the perfect day out for you.

Mercedes Benz World at Brooklands in Weybridge was established quite recently and aims to bring a different experience to all those who love cars and driving. Brooklands in Weybridge was was the worlds first purpose built driving circuit in 1907 and held the UK's first Grand Prix. After 1945 the Brooklands site was commercially developed but parts of the original circuit are now used in the Mercedes Benz Wordls experience.

Not only is Mercedes Benz World fun but it also gives you a chance to learn about the company's history and how everything comes together. It would also be a fun place for kids of all ages.

Your day out can include a visit to the cinema to watch the 'Mercedes Firsts' film which tells you about the 120 years of Mercedes history. Then you can go on to browse over 100 cars including the famous Mercedes SLR McLaren.

Your day can also include a visit to the Mercedes Benz gallery where you can find out everything about the history of cars, motor sports and Brooklands race circuit. You also have the chance to 'become' a Mercedes Benz with the 3d simulator and then you can visit the kid's laboratory where you can explore the challenges that the first car inventors where faced with.

However, no doubt the most popular part of the Mercedes Benz World experience, guests will be able to go on a driving experience. All interests and abilities are catered for and you can either drive yourself or simply ride in the passenger seat on one of their specially designed circuits. Experiences you can choose from are; off road, handling and performance, passenger rides and kids driving.

Mercedes Benz World is definately a day that is going to be enjoyed by all car lovers, young and old.

The pub itself is in lovely surroundings if you want to sit outside and there will be entertainment over the whole weekend, including Morris Men and a rythm and Blues band, as well as a chance to try many different real ales, lagers and ciders.

Fun for all the Family

It's often hard to find somewhere to go that can please all of your family, particularly on one of those horrible rainy days. However, there's one place in the Surrey area where you can find something for everyone and all under one roof.

The Guildford Spectrum Leisure Complex houses so many activities that it would be impossible not to find something you want to do.

Guildford Spectrum holds an Olympic sized ice skating rink, which is home to Ice Hockey champions, The Guildford Flames. When the rink isn't holding matches it is readily available for public use, whether you're an experienced ice dancer or it's your first time. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights the rink holds and disco as well as having designated family times during the weekend. There is also plenty of time for general skating. Ice skates are available to hire for very good prices but if you have your own skates feel free to take them in.

If your a fan of ice hockey you can catch a Guildford Flames game from September to April.

Guildford Spectrum also offers 4 leisure pools for anyone from beginners to serious swimmers and divers. The leisure pool is an exciting area for everyone holding slides, a wave machine, tyre rides and bubble beds. This pool is great fun but don't expect to get a relaxing swim. There's no chance of that happening in this pool.

The swimming area also holds an Olympic diving pool which is also opened for general use, so if your too scared to dive just jump!

Swimming and diving lessons are available, as well as party bookings, swimming clubs and private hire. The pool area also has a fully equipped changing area.

As if skating and swimming weren't enough the Spectrum also holds a tenpin bowling area with 32 lanes. It has various weights of balls, lane bumpers if you need them, free shoe rental, a fully licensed bar, pizza restaurant and video machines for after your game.

Bowling clubs and memberships are available as well as bowling parties.

As well as all of this Guildford Spectrum offers a crèche for younger members of the family, a gym and spa, aerobics classes and soft play areas for the children.

A day out at Guildford Spectrum is a fun packed day for everyone; just don't be surprised if everyone wants to do something different.
